Digicel Vanuatu embarks on 5th Universal Access Undertaking and targets 99% population coverage

Digicel Vanuatu announced the signing of its 5th Undertaking to deliver mobile coverage for an estimated 99% of the population in Vanuatu. This project demonstrates Digicel Vanuatu's commitment to connecting the country, aligning with the ICT Week theme, ‘Innovate Today, Sustain Tomorrow’ and making a substantial contribution to digital accessibility and economic development nationwide.
Despite Vanuatu’s challenging geography, Digicel Vanuatu remains dedicated to bridging the digital divide. Accessing remote or underserved areas presents significant infrastructural and logistical challenges, but this latest commitment demonstrates that Digicel Vanuatu is resolute in overcoming these limitations and extending connectivity to every Ni-Vanuatu.
As part of its regulatory obligation and core mandate to bridge communities, Digicel Vanuatu has undertaken this vital 5th Undertaking. The project marks a milestone success for the company, as it will extend mobile coverage to an estimated 99% of the population of Vanuatu. Announced during ICT Week, this project highlights Digicel Vanuatu’s commitment to advancing the national ICT vision and fostering a digitally inclusive tomorrow.
Digicel Vanuatu CEO, Gary Sue-Fong, said; “We are very proud to be embarking on our 5th Undertaking as part of our UAP obligations. This is a leap forward to ensuring that almost everyone in the country has access to the life-changing potential of mobile coverage. We believe that leaving no one behind will be central to building a digital future for Vanuatu and this project shows that we’re dedicated to that vision.
“Connecting remote and under-served communities is at the heart of what we do. By providing core mobile services, this extension will make access to digital tools and services available that can drive economic growth, increase healthcare access, enhance educational opportunities and open doors to financial inclusion for thousands of Ni-Vanuatu. We are excited to be able to continue our collaboration with the government and regulator to make this vision a reality.”
This project reaffirms Digicel Vanuatu’s role as a dedicated telecommunications partner in collaboration with the regulator and government to bring universal connectivity. Apart from boosting mobile network coverage, the project will also offer pathways for increased access to MyCash, e-learning portals, e-health initiatives and digital finance, empowering people and communities in what were previously unconnected or under-resourced communities.
